RUN-N-LITES conversion kits illuminate the stock turn signal
housing with a low intensity light at all times. A high intensity
light flashes with actuation of the turn signal switch. There
is no cutting or splicing of wires required to install RUN-N-LITES.
TYPE-6 RUN-N-LITES (front)
The front kit requires that the stock BMW turn signal reflectors
be modified to accept dual element bulbs (#1157) and sockets.
This kit can be purchased two ways.
(1) Ship your reflectors to RUN-N-LITES, they will be modified
and returned to you ASAP.
(2) A complete ready to install kit consisting of new, modified
reflectors, lenses and mounting screws.
Either way, the kits comes with necessary wiring, connectors
and written instructions for installation. Power for the new
running light circuit is obtained at the "Parking Lamp"
in the head light assembly.
TYPE-7 RUN-N-LITES (rear)
The TYPE-7 kit fits the rear of the K-1. The kit utilizes
standard, dual element, car tail light bulbs (#1157). These
bulbs contain both a low intensity element and a high intensity
element. The low intensity element is the running or marker
light, which is ON all the time. The high intensity element
is the flashing, turn signal element, which is ON intermittently.
The stock BMW single element turn signal bulb and socket are
replaced with the RUN-N-LITES dual element bulb and socket.
The RUN-N-LITES bulb handles both running (marker) and turn
signal functions. No modifications are required to the wiring.
Power for the new running light circuit is obtained from the
"Tail Light" circuit in the tail light assembly.
Modification to rear housing.
While this kits fits inside the stock rear turn signal housing,
the housing must be modified by drilling two 1/8" diameter
holes for ventilation. This modification has been found to
be necessary to relieve heat build-up. The holes are not a
problem technically, and the aesthetics are not an issue as
they are in an out of sight area. The ventilation holes are
needed to maintain acceptable temperatures inside the housing.
Demand on Electrical System
The additional draw on the electrical system is 16.6 watts
(1.18 amp) per each kit installed. Two kits are required to
outfit both the front and rear lights of a bike; 33.2 watts
(2.36 amps) total. This is no problem on the K-Bike as the
electrical system is very robust. |
