RUN-N-LITES conversion kits for the K-1200 RS illuminate
the stock turn signal housing with a low intensity light at
all times. A high intensity light flashes with actuation of
the turn signal switch. There is no cutting or splicing of
wires required to install RUN-N-LITES.
TYPE-10 RUN-N-LITES (rear-all years)
The TYPE-10 kit fits the rear of the K-1200 RS. The kit utilizes
standard, dual element, car tail light bulbs (#1157). These
bulbs contain both a low intensity element and a high intensity
element. The low intensity element is the running or marker
light, which is ON all the time. The high intensity element
is the flashing, turn signal element, which is ON intermittently.
The stock BMW single element turn signal bulb and socket are
replaced with the RUN-N-LITES dual element bulb and socket.
The RUN-N-LITES bulb handles both running (marker) and turn
signal functions. The original plastic reflector is also replaced
with a stainless steel reflector. A fiber glass and aluminum
foil heat shield is also included. No modifications are required
to the wiring. Power for the new running light circuit is
obtained from the "Tail Light" circuit in the tail
light assembly.
TYPE-14 RUN-N-LITES (front- for up to and including
model year 2001)
This turn signal conversion kit fits the front of BMW K-1200
RS. This kit uses a single element, low intensity light bulb
(#168) and socket, which mounts inside the front turn signal
housing adjacent to the stock, single element, turn signal
bulb. The RUN-N-LITES bulb handles the running (marker) light
duties only, while the original turn signal bulb continues
to handle the turn signal duties. No modifications are required
to the turn signal housing or the wiring. Power for the new
running light circuit is obtained at the "Parking Lamp"
in the head light assembly.
TYPE-8 RUN-N-LITES (front - for 2002model year on)
The TYPE-8 kit fits the front of the K-1200 RS.
No modifications are required to the turn
signal housing or the wiring. Power for the new running light
circuit is obtained at the "Parking Lamp" in the
headlight assembly.
Demand on Electrical System
The additional draw on the electrical system is 16.6 watts
(1.18 amp) for the rear kit and 9.8 watts (0.7 amps) for the
front. With both the front and rear lights installed, the
new electrical demand is 26.4 watts (1.88 amps) total. This
is no problem on the K-Bike as the electrical system is very
robust.
Recommended Modification to rear housing.
While this kit fits inside the stock turn signal housing,
it is recommended the housing be modified by drilling an 1/8"
diameter hole for ventilation. This modification has been
found to help relieve heat build-up. This hole is not a problem
technically. The ventilation hole is recommended to maintain
acceptable temperatures inside the housing.
