Fits plastic or metal housings. If you
have metal housings, please indicate so when ordering.
RUN-N-LITES conversion kits illuminate the stock
turn signal housing with a low intensity light at all times.
A high intensity light flashes with actuation of the turn
signal switch. There is no cutting or splicing of wires required
to install RUN-N-LITES.
TYPE-4 RUN-N-LITES (front and/or rear)
The TYPE-4 kit utilizes standard, dual element, car tail light
bulbs (#1157). These bulbs contain both a low intensity element
and a high intensity element. The low intensity element is
the running or marker light, which is ON all the time. The
high intensity element is the flashing, turn signal element,
which is ON intermittently. The stock BMW single element turn
signal bulb and socket are replaced with the RUN-N-LITES dual
element bulb and socket. The RUN-N-LITES bulb handles both
running (marker) and turn signal functions. The original plastic
reflector is also replaced with a stainless steel reflector.
No modifications are required to the wiring. Power for the
rear running light circuit is obtained from the "Tail
Light" circuit in the tail light assembly. Power for
the front running light circuit is obtained at the "Parking
Lamp" in the head light assembly.
TYPE-5 RUN-N-LITES (R-___GS/PD rear)
This kit is a variation of the TYPE-4 kit above. It has custom
wire lengths to fit the GS & PD rear installation. Power
for the new rear running light circuit is obtained from the
"Tail Light" circuit in the tail light assembly.
Demand on Electrical System
The additional draw on the electrical system is 16.6 watts
(1.18 amp) per each kit installed. Two kits are required to
outfit both the front and rear lights of a bike; 33.2 watts
(2.36 amps) total.
A word about R-bike charging systems.
It is no secret that the R-bike charging system leaves something
to be desired. Given the age of the fleet, every installation
must be looked at as a unique situation. Your riding habits,
as well as the bikes mechanical condition, play an important
role in the performance of the charging system. Are you an
"in town" or "highway" rider? Do you set
at stop lights a lot? What is the condition of the charging
system? Do you have; heated vest, pants, gloves, grips...etc?
Generally speaking, one set of RUN-N-LITES, either front
or rear, on a reasonably well maintained R-bike will not cause
any adverse affects, whether "in town" or "highway"
ridden. Also, there are a large number of R-bikes out there
that have two sets of RUN-N-LITES installed and working perfectly
well. It is up to you to determine what is appropriate for
your situation. However, if you do opt for both front and
rear kits and get into trouble, we will buy back one or both
kits, your option.

BUDDYs = LED inserts for the front and/or rear. These
inserts only draw160 mA per set, which is less then an instrument
light bulb and can certainly be added to your system without
causing any problem whatsoever. |
